Volunteering Opportunities

We walk by cemeteries quite often nearly everyday, but few of us stop and truly look and learn from these places.  How can anybody truly appreciate something they know very little about?  Historic cemeteries perhaps do not attract as many because of the perceptions of being "scarey" places!

However, we have many cemeteries throughout Washington County, Arkansas which need our attention right now.  If we sit back and do nothing, then we must ask ourselves "what is going to happen to these historic places?"

This group was formed in 2013 in hopes of making a difference and promoting the preservation of our historical cemeteries throughout our county.  We have nearly 400 cemeteries and 100+ are in need of attention right now.  One of these "needy" cemeteries may even have one of your ancestors buried there.

The preservation of our cemeteries is a volunteer effort and we are need of volunteers.  All of our present activities are taken care of in our spare time.  Some of us have secular jobs as well as other obligations.  But we make time for the cemeteries because they are important relics of our past and say so much about all of us culturally.

If you would like to be a part of this worthwhile effort, then please, don't hesitate to write us an email at wccpg@aol.com and tell us what you are interested in.  Currently, we are looking for persons to fill board positions.  If you are interested in learning more about the positions please write at the email above.

Also, check out our projects page on here and see what current projects we are working on in Washington County.  We would love to have you helping us on any of the projects listed.  Thanks!
